Welcome to Edwin Markham Elementary PTA!
On behalf of the PTA, we would like to welcome all returning students and their families. We would also like to extend a special welcome to those who are new to our school. We are looking forward to a wonderful 2007-2008 school year.
Markham is a special place, as many of you know or will soon find out. We are most fortunate to have a principal like Mr. Mallery, and an outstanding team of teachers and support staff, that allows us to participate in our children’s school life in many different ways.
We are looking forward to our first year as co-Presidents of the Markham PTA and plan to continue with the changes initiated during the last school year. These changes include two levels of PTA membership, a year-round gift card fundraiser, Cards Make Cash (CMC), and our fall festival, Markham Magic (MM).
At Markham, there are many opportunities to get involved and meet others in the Markham community. There are several family events: Markham Magic, Holiday Fair, Start the Day with a Buddy, Scholastic Book Fair and an Ice Cream Social to name a few. We fund and support student activities such as cultural arts programs, books for the school library and author visits.
Our primary means of communicating with parents is via our weekly newsletter, The Markham Flyer, and for important and timely information we will also communicate through eblast. The Markham Flyer is sent home every Thursday with the eldest child. You can also find PTA information on the PTA Bulletin Board located just inside the front entrance.
PTA Meetings are held monthly in the Markham school library. At these meetings we conduct General PTA business and often there will be a speaker arranged by our Parent Education Chair. Mr. Mallery hosts at PTA/Principal’s Coffee four times a year in the Multi Purpose Room. These coffees are informal discussions between parents and Mr. Mallery, and on occasion he may provide a speaker. The dates are listed on the district calendar, the current Markham Flyer, and this website.
Our Playground Committee has completed the transformation of our new playground. Both the Playground and Landscape Committees have transformed our grounds into an amazing park for our children to play and learn. If you would like to volunteer on a committee, please feel free to contact a member of the Executive Board or the designated Committee Chairperson. The names, phone numbers and email addresses are located in the district calendar and the Markham directory.
