 Welcome
to
  Jefferson Elementary
   School

Mr. Marc E. Thornton

Principal

Dear Jefferson Elementary School Families:

Welcome to the 2011 – 2012 school year! I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and to share my excitement about joining the learning community at Jefferson Elementary School. I am fortunate to become a member of a school culture focused on student learning, commitment to high expectations, innovation and collaboration.  Jefferson Elementary School has an outstanding reputation for its dedicated parents, teachers, and staff who work diligently to provide the best educational experiences for children. I intend to carry on these important traditions and practices.

My background and experience in education includes being an Elementary Principal in the North Hills School District (grades K – 6) for two years in addition to being a learning support teacher at North Hills Senior High.  During this time, I was also the Assistant Director in the district’s alternative school program (grades 7 – 12).  As a teacher, I was recognized as a semi-finalist for Pennsylvania’s Teacher of the Year program and received recognition as a Keystones Technology Integrator.  It is my goal to continue this high standard of excellence as Principal for Jefferson Elementary School.

As your child’s principal, it is my responsibility to ensure that quality education is provided within a safe, respectful, and comfortable learning environment. In addition, based on what is in the best interest of all children at Jefferson Elementary School, decisions will be made to help guide them toward personal responsibility and the necessary decision-making skills needed to function in our communities. We believe all students can achieve ~ our students and staff will strive to do their personal best.

I am a firm believer in the home and school connection, and the staff at Jefferson Elementary School strongly believes that you are an important component of your child’s academic achievement. I invite you to play an active role in your child’s education by: reviewing assignments, monitoring progress, establishing and maintaining communication with teachers, reading with your child, volunteering at school, and providing encouragement. By working together as a team, we can continue to make excellent progress in your child’s educational experiences.

I have had the opportunity to learn more about the unique strengths, traditions and practices of Jefferson Elementary School. These experiences are just the start of a successful school year in creating a roadmap for our school’s future. With my “open door” policy, I hope that you will find me to be open, honest and compassionate. I look forward to earning your trust and respect   Please feel free to contact me at the school with any questions, concerns, or just to introduce yourself.

Respectfully,

Marc E. Thornton

Principal
