High School Science Bowl Excel in Regional Competition
Two Mt. Lebanon High School teams competed at the Department of Energy High School Science Bowl regional qualifier on Saturday, February 22. It was held at CCAC South Campus in West Mifflin. This is a buzzer quiz show in which teams of four students face off to showcase knowledge in the sciences and mathematics.
Foster and Jefferson Students Winners in PSO Poetry Contest
Students from Jefferson and Foster elementary schools had the distinct honor of having their poems read during the March 1 Fiddlesticks concert featuring Camille Saint-Saens' The Carnival of the Animals. The students were among the winners in the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra poetry contest.
Jefferson and Mellon Literary Magazines Honored by NCTE
Jefferson Middle School’s Literary Magazine Our Piece of Mind and Mellon Middle School’s The Outlook were both recognized with a rank of Excellent in the 2013 National Council of Teachers of English Program to Recognize Excellence in Student Literary Magazines.
Children and Youth Disability and Mental Health Summit

Alcoa Grant Awards JMS for Environmental Focus
Jefferson Middle School was awarded a $15,000 grant by the Alcoa Foundation to support an Environmental Year at JMS.
High School Student Wins Honorable Mention in White House Film Festival
Sophomore Kelly Hois was awarded an Honorable Mention in the 2014 White House Student Film Festival, the first-ever film festival at the White House. Kelly earned this honor from a field of more than 2000 videos.
High School Freshman Takes Home Top Honors from Public Theatre's Shakespeare Competition
Over 1200 students from Allegheny County, including 22 from the Mt. Lebanon School District, competed in the Pittsburgh Public Theatre's Shakespeare Scene and Monologue Contest. Mt. Lebanon High School freshman Burke Rhodes and Logan Shiller from CAPA were chosen as the Grand Winner of the Upper Division Scene.
Model UN Team Wins 1st Place at Duquesne University Tournament
The high school Model United Nations (MUN) team recently competed with 400 students from 25 high schools across Pennsylvania in the Duquesne University Model UN tournament on Jan. 31. Mt. Lebanon won the 1st place team award--Best Delegation--and also claimed the 1st place Individual Student Award.
